Biography
Jacqueline Marie Mercado was, simply put, born to perform. Born on May 30, 1985 in the South Bronx, and growing up in a poor neighborhood, she was constantly faced with adversity growing up. The one thing she could always count on to make her happy was being on stage. Her first experience in theater was in second grade, in an original production about a Hispanic family. But Jacqui knew that she wanted to sing, more than anything. She had a strong passion for Pop and R&B styles in the beginning of her vocal development. However, as she participated in different musical theater productions in highschool, and began voice lessons, she realized that her passion was roused in singing and acting together, on stage.
Her entire family is musical. Her father has played guitar for 30+ years, and her brother taught himself to play guitar. Her mother, Maria, is a classically trained opera singer, and her 11 year old sister has also been bitten by the acting bug, and takes acting and voice classes.
She graduated from Preston High School, in Throgs Neck (same high school as Jennifer Lopez), and continued toward a Bachelor's Degree in Music, with a concentration in musical theater at Manhattanville College. There, she received intense training in different vocal styles, including musical theater, legit, classical, cabaret, and even some opera. She also received dance training in ballet, modern, jazz, tap, and afro-caribbean. Her acting training was mostly ensemble work, with more intent training in improv. Her favorite improv training was Playback Theater, taught by Hannah Fox, who is the daughter of the founder of Playback. She also trained in acting for the camera.
Her hope, especially as a young Latina woman from the South Bronx, is to be a successful actress and to be a role model for Hispanic people. She has seen so many people around her drop out of highschool, get into drugs, go to jail, and lose sight of the dreams that they once had. Jacqui wants to show that people don't have to be products of their environment, and that no matter how out of reach their dream is, if they work hard, anyone can make it come true.

Hi Jacqueline....well...it went well. I just wasn't my best.....I had a horrible, horrible cold..you could hear it when I talked....so I talked to my audience, and told them about it and said I was going to sing anyway because it didn't matter how I sounded, but what mattered was my message. I got through my song...but it was hard with the cold. I just didn't sound like me. At the end they all stood up for me and I was so touched I cried.
Is "anything goes" a movie? It sounds familiar to my mom but she doesn't know why. I am going to have my first solo. Theres a benefit concert and I'm going to be singing at it. I've never been on stage all by myself. I always had the choir with me. EEk!
